Released 1996; MCA Records DRND-11260 A serious tribute, from a variety of big names - and a variety of styles. You won't like them all; but if you're a Buddy Holly fan, I'm sure you'll like most. For me, the Hollies overdub on "Peggy Sue Got Married" is marvellous, not that I'd want any overdub to replace the original, but they shown one of the many ways that Buddy Holly just might have evolved - and it's one of my favorite tracks in it's original form too! Nanci Griffith's "Well ... All Right" was a real showstopper for me; she's done a great job of both making it her own, and respecting the original intention. She sounds completely different, while the song sounds just the same, if you know what I mean ... hmmm, I guess not ... it's a Texas thing! Waylon Jennings' heartfelt 'Learning The Game' benefits from Knopfler's guitar - a beautifully produced track, and just right to end on. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
